Counterstamp on Spanish 2 reales.

While the host coin, a 1784 two reales from Mexico City, is only a Good 4, the counterstamp on this example is bold. This would indicate the counterstamp was applied later than 1828, more likely in the 1840s. William Carels operated the Bolivar House at 203 Chestnut St. from 1827 to at least 1848. There are only three or four known examples counterstamped on Spanish two real coins. This variety is one of just three examples known
