W. Field. New York, NY. 148 Chatham Street. (1835). Copper. 28mm.

A rare token struck in copper and measuring 28mm in diameter. The obverse features a top hat at the center with NEW YORK beneath. A circular legend reads: W. FIELD 148 CHATHAM CORNER OF MULBERRY ST. A smiling beaver is at the center of the reverse and is circle d by: MANUFACTURER OF HATS CAPS & FANCY FURS. For future identification, a planchet crack extends inward from 12 o'clock on the reverse, and the corresponding location on the obverse. Otherwise, the surfaces are smooth and a medium brown color. An important opportunity for the token specialist.
