Struck on a quartered section of a Mexico 8 reals. R6. 5.8 grams.

Struck with Brunk’s #5 obverse die and his “B” reverse die.

This issue was originally attributed by Lyman Low to Peuch, Bein & Co,. of New Orleans and placed by him in the Hard Times period. This attribution was followed by the collection fraternity, until recently when Robert Leonard’s extensive research proved that these counterstamped pieces were actually issued by the Planter Bank of New Orleans in the 1811-15 period.
