Unsigned, but ascribed by McSorley to Frederick B. Smith.

The obverse bears a bust of Van Buren to the left surrounded by the legend: * THE SOBER SECOND THOUGHTS * OF THE PEOPLE ARE O.K. The reverse depicts a safe at center surmounted by an eagle with a scroll in its beak inscribed JUSTICE EQUALIT. The surrounding legend reads: * THE. INDEPENDENT. SUB. TREASURY. * THE. CHOICE OF. THE. PEOPLE.
